Character

I used to hate this kind of scene, just hate it.  The mess and randomness offended my neat gene.  But after visiting Italy, where power lines necessarily run on the outside of homes built centuries before electricity, and repairs to ancient stone and brick are sometimes viewed as an unnecessary luxury, I rather like it.

Texture can be endlessly fascinating.  And it's certainly more fun to paint than a picture of modern drywall!

Character; that's what these old buildings have.  And as I become an old character myself, I'm learning to appreciate them.
