A Step Back In Time (without the hard physical labor)

The Amana Colonies is a collection of seven towns in east-central Iowa.   Settled by Germans who first came to upstate New York, then Iowa, they were almost completely self-sufficient for 80 years.  They kept their lifestyle by pursuing the handcrafts and farming they brought with them from Germany.  Now the towns are a popular tourist destination, with amazing food, shops, and wineries.
